Heworth 0-3 Hemingbrough United – York FA Junior Cup 3rd Round
By Simon Brooks
Hemingbrough secured a second cup quarter final of the season with fully committed performance against Heworth. The first half saw chances at a premium with both defences on top with the hosts having the best chance when a 20 yard strike went just wide of the far post.
With the fog rolling-in ‘Boro upped the tempo in the second period and Adie Wood became more involved down the right flank with a series of strong runs.
The game was sealed in a three minute spell midway through the half. The 65th minute saw the move of the game – Smith received the ball on the half way line and turned and played in Zacharenko who, after beating his man cut the ball back to Chris Caudwell who curled a fantastic shot into the far corner. Two minutes later Zacharenko and Wood combined well on the left to create a half chance for Danny Smith who made no mistake. And a minute later Brooks’ long ball deceived the home defender to allow Luke Zacharenko to complete the scoring.
Heworth staged a late rally and Briggs saved well to his right but overall it was a confident performance which saw the back four of Harrison, Young, Zacharenko and Brooks defending as they did in the early part of the season. Chris Caudwell picked up The Crown Man of the Match.
This week the side have a week off before their next league game at home to Osbaldwick.
