YORK FA CUP RESULT
FIRST TEAM 2 - 0 SECOND TEAM
in what was an historic occasion for everyone associated with Hemingbrough United, the Reserves pushed their superiors all the way in this FA Junior Cup tie before the 1st teams class showed in the end as they progressed to the next round.
The first half belonged to 'Boro's' second string as they pressed and hassled their opponents into making numerous errors. Tom Jackson and Mark Livsey caused countless problems upfront, and it was Livsey who almost broke the deadlock with a left foot strike which was superbly turned round the post by Nick Brown. At the other end Steve Harrison saw his header tipped onto the post by Matty Milburn and Dan Smith poked wide from 8 yards.
The turning point of the game arrived on 40 minutes as Chris Caudwell brought down Dale Shipley and the penalty was awarded to the Reserves. However, Tom Jackson saw his spot kick saved by Brown and ball was played away to safety.
The first team raised their game in the second half knowing that they were in a real battle following a bit of hair dryer treatment from manager Simon Brooks. A long ball over the top caught the Reserve defence flat footed which allowed Adie Wood to race clear and fire past Milburn for the opening goal on 55 minutes.
'Boro's' first team began to take control and when Caudwell was brought down in the area with 20 minutes remaining, Luke Zacharenko stepped up to take the penalty but saw his shot well saved only for Harry Jackson to score from the rebound.
Both sets of players tired in the final stages of the game as the whistle blew to signal the end of a great day for Hemingbrough United.
Steve Harrison was awarded the man of the match for the First Team while Daz Tate and Jonny Falkingham
